Gee Wiz! There is no way I can cover all that is necessary to run this
BBS. In general, if you use the included seed files (USR,FWD,BID,DIR)
and have them on a disk named B: or assign B: to some directory that
contains above files, then you should be able to run this BBS (keepy you
fingers out of the files and let things run automatically).
If you don't know how to use a W0RLI type BBS - forget running this one.
Learn how to use a BBS before you SYSOP one.
This BBS runs on KANTRONICS TNCs only. Sorry. If nothing else, you
can forget the BBS and run this program as a communications program.
The SYSOP interface stinks. Actually, there is no SYSOP interface.
If you want to post a message, then you have to create a file such as
B:123 with the message text, and fake a B:DIR entry pointing to that
message. But, this is an AMIGA and you have the power to do it.
The source file. Well, uh, it aint the easiest thing to read or
understand. But it is included. I use original Metacomco Assembler
M68000 MACRO ASSEMBLER version 10.178. Other assemblers (CAPE for
instance) will drive you bonkers with errors and goofy code.
There are minor bugs. I have been running this BBS for several years.
It isn't idiot proof - you do something wrong - you goof it up. I run
it on an Amiga 1000 with kludged memory, ext memory, hard drive, ext
3.5" drive, and 2 ext 5.25" drives. AmigaDOS 1.2. Don't have latest
AmigaDOS 1.3, but it should work with that. Don't know about A500 or
A2000 - a local has RS-232 CTS problem with A500 - could be program,
could be TNC or RS-232 cable. He can receive packet and HELP key works,
but nothing from keyboard to TNC.
TNC PARAMETERS are very important. Somewhere in these files is a DISP
from my KPC-4 - these parameters work for me.
This BBS was written from scratch to mimic other BBS's. I have little
idea how other BBS's work. Obviously they won't know what makes this
one tick.
WARNING: If the above scares you, then you aren't ready to be a SYSOP
anyway - it takes a lot of time to keep a BBS clean and properly oiled.
N3DPU did it, so can you.
Any feedback is welcome. Randy N3ET @ N3ET.
